The city center is like 15-20 of drive by car - so it's not a catastrophe either, bottom line.

Visit the old city centre which is a maze of narrow lanes and stairs. Go into the churches. The Greek Temples are in a lovely spot but very large so take your time. You would really have to work hard to eat badly in Sicily so don't worry about trying a place of the main drag.
We used Catania as our arrival and departure point for Sicily. The airport made for a problem-free travel experience and allowed us multiple options for experiencing Sicily.
If you want to go to Scala dei Turchi, take a taxi near the Valle dei Templi - it is closer than Agrigento itself. Two ways price is usually 60 euros, you can try to get the same offer for 50 euros (taxi driver offers to wait for you for an hour). You can try to go to Scala dei Turchi by bus - to Realmonte and then walk for 40 mins, but be aware that it can be too hot for such walk + buses don't go there on Sundays and Holidays. Valle dei Templi is close to the town - you can take a bus (#1, 2, 3) near the Central Station. But on the way back a bus doesn't go directly to Agrigento - it goes near beaches and it takes around 1 hour to get back. In this case, you can just walk back (2,5 km). Or of course, take a taxi. Dinner in Agrigento can be pretty cheap comparing to other town and cities of Sicily.
Agrigento town is 200 meters from the railway station. We had a good lunch at Pitito restaurant which is located near the station. The bus station is nearby up the hill from the restaurant. The Valley of the Temples was a highlight of our trip to Sicily.
Catania is the second largest city in Sicily. While not as cosmopolitan as Palermo, the capital and largest city, it has a lot to offer — authenticity, beautiful baroque architecture, etc. We ate in a genuine family-operated restaurant. For 15 euros, the appetizers just kept coming. And the grilled chicken and steak were delicious.
Sant'Agata di Militello is the hometown of my grandparents who immigrated to the US over 100 years ago. So it holds a special place in my heart because of extended family who live there.. It lies on the north coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea between Cefalu and Messina. It has a 16th century Spanish castle on the main square, Castel Gallego that is a must see.. We loved the beautuful Duomo that dates from 1840's.. Our hotel was the 17th century Palazzo Fortunato, now a very modern boutique hotel.. The owner has done a fantastic internal remodel that was by far the best place we stayed in Sicily.. The restaurants were terrific.. very reasonable cost.. but mostly we just fell in love with the warm and gracious people of this commune. It's easily accessible by train from Palermo or Messina. We did a day trip to Cefalu by train.. It's a very walkable town.. no car needed. The passagiata on Sunday evening and the sunsets over the seaside, the Nebrodi mountains that rise up behind the town..make it a great place to relax and mingle in an non/touristy setting.. The lical people are very proud of their commune and are making excellent progress in restorations and improvements to this special place..
Essential. Marvelous place to witness ancient history — the flowing through of various cultures. Wonderfully diverse dining Hire ‘Passage to Sicily’ experts to explain it all
Catania has a personality all of its own. The fish market is a sight every traveler must see and Ursino Castle is a delight. The Roman theatre is there for those who enjoy exploring history. The food and wine of Sicily are outstanding and the produce of the volcanic earth adds something special to local produce. Culture, sun, food, wine, history and shopping. What more could you want?
The food and people are amazing! One of our favorite places while in Sicily. To the left of the Duomo are little outdoor cafes, the people were just wonderful! Listened to a great piano player one night right next to the church! A magical night we'll never forget!
I used to wake up very early in sicily and have to drive like a mad man for several hours to get to Palermo airport. Now I spend my last evening relaxing in Cinisi get a good meal and a nights sleep and wake up 10 minutes from airport.
Calatabiano
Excellent location to visit Giardini Naxos, Taormina, Etna and many other Sicily attractions. Marco perfectly welcomed us and explained everything upon arrival. Apartment fully refurbished and equipped with all common needs and impressively clean. two bedrooms and two bathrooms, large corner balcony and very good WiFi in all areas. Easy to find and safe parking space. Marco also recommended where we can eat without using our car in the center of Calatabiano which is a nice small town. Certainly will go back again if visiting the area.
This is a quality and affordable hotel. As a guest, you receive a quality room, customer service, basic hygiene products, help with learning the area, and so forth. The hotel is centrally located. There is a nearby grocery store. The hotel is not far from the Palermo Central train station, which has trains to take you throughout Sicily, Italy, and Europe. I applaud the owner for investing money in this quality hotel and offering good customer service, which is lacking in hotels throughout the world.
The whole experience was excellent. Pool area is wonderful & full off tranquility. Hotel was very well run & clean. Extreme eye to detail. Food was the best we've had & don't get me started on that cheesecake.... Out of this world. Our waiter - forgot his name but he went above and beyond explaining & recommending, it was a joy to have - thank you! The hidden gem off Sicily & we will be back. Thanks for having us & making us feel welcome. Kind regards, Nina & Ryan
Castellammare del Golfo
Apartment is in perfect condition, super spacious, super clean and has everything you need including private parking and street parking. The location is perfect for exploring northwest of Sicily and the beautiful "must see" beaches in the area. If you have a car, it takes cc 50-60 minutes to reach Palermo. Several supermarkets, Castellammare historical center and port are close to the apartment. Davide is a great host, and he was always available for all our questions.
Cefalù
One of the most amazing properties I’ve stayed in Italy (definitely the best in Sicily), Mariagrazia was an extremely friendly and helpful host, ready to answer any questions and very approachable. My room was spotlessly clean, very comfy, and window overlooking the duomo. To beat this, the rooftoo terasse was simply breathtaking, cannot imagine a better location in Cefalu. Breakfast was tasty, of course you must have it on the terasse.
Excellent pool, breakfast was OK, staff were really helpful and gave us some great tips for Marsala and the surrounding area. Florio Cantina next door had an excellent marsala tasting tour. Grand Palace Hotel is a great base for exploring the West of Sicily - we thought that we needed to drive to Trapani to visit the Egadi Islands but the ferry to Favignana goes from 900 metres away. A wonderful day cycling and swimming on the island
Catania
This was our second stay at Sicily Luxury B&B: we began and ended our six weeks in southern Italy here. As noted in the previous review, everything about this lodging is great: breakfasts, location, facilities, and staff. Paid street parking easily available within a 5-10 minute walk. Highly recommended as a base for exploring Catania, Taormina, Messina (don't miss the Caravaggios in the Regional Museum there), and Etna.
Milazzo
I came to Milazzo on a whim needing a treat and pick me up. Upper-boutique Hotel was just that. The property is excellently managed. The furnishings are stylish, handsome and comfortable. Great Linens. Breakfast had more choices than I have seen in Sicily. But best our host Gloria. She is on top of everything. I made a mistake about my train arrival and she caught it and called back. Great value and really a top notch treat.
The Hotel was super central & had everything near by, shops, restaurants & the beach. The room was just like in the pictures. Very bright & spacious. The hotel didn’t provide breakfast themselves but but they give you a token that you bring to a wonderful coffee shop around the corner which provided the best breakfast we had in Sicily. The hotel pays for this breakfast. We couldn’t have asked for better stay.
Cefalù
Apartment was beautiful and thoughtfully designed with care for guests, including coffee & tea in room, many electrical outlets, a light next to the bed, clean smelling sheets, a comfortable bed, and a delicious homemade breakfast! Rita and her staff were incredibly kind and offered many great recommendations in the area, including the best meal I had while in Sicily. I never wanted to leave! Gratzie Rita!
Castellammare del Golfo
This was the only accomodation we lived in Sicily with washing machine. Host was very kind and took us detergent and softener for it, so I should not buy it. Enough room for parking on site. Hotel is on the hill with a view to Castellammare and sea. There are 2 rooms in appartment - living room with a kitchenette and bedroom. In the kitchen there was coffee machine with capsules. There is everything you need!
Marsala
This was the best place that we stayed on our 10 days trip to Sicily! Absolutely gorgeous apartment, would love to live there😂❤Really helpful owner, let us check in earlier, always asked if everything is ok! Apartment location is perfect, everything is just on the corner! Very clean and cozy. Long story short, we felt like home and thats the best thing. Would recommend everyone to stay here if in Marsala!❤
Taormina
Andriano was a perfect host. Great value especially considering the location. It’s nice to have the balcony space. Apartments are clean and well equipped. We were a family of 11 adults. We rented 2 two bedroom apartments, the studio with terrace and the huge one bedroom on umberto corso. The owner was kind. He tried to help us locate our Italian family members in Sicily. He also gave us wine
Fantastic location and super helpful staff. Everyone was brilliant from the front desk, breakfast and cleaners. Breakfast sat overlooking the harbour was fantastic, loads to choose from complete with homemade cakes. If we are ever back this way this would be the only place we would stay. Thank you everyone at the Hotel Cala Marina for making our first stay in Sicily a fantastic trip!
This Hotel has it all. The beach right across the street with a great restaurant right at the edge. The tram to the city center is a short walk down the street. Rooms have a million dollar vies. The pool on top is great with bar service. The breakfast is more that you can ask for. The hotel itself is in emasculate condition. We would stay here again if we are back in Sicily.
Great Period Hotel in excellent City Location. Staff were always helpful and ready to assist us. Only blemish, is the size of the shower (very small) but this is common in Sicily. However Sicily is now the new “Go to Destination” in Europe, if not on the planet, so larger showers would be a wonderful and welcome addition for future visitors from all over the world.
Spent our last day/night in Trapani of our Sicily vacation in the perfect property. Hotel has lovely decor throughout from the lobby to the rooms with really nice attention to detail. Open courtyard area was great to enjoy a lovely breakfast. Would highly recommend a stay at Hotel San Michele if visiting Trapani. Parking is easy only 1min walk from property.
Marina di Ragusa
Apartment was extremely clean and comfy. Giuseppe who participated during check in was most gentle guy I've ever met in whole Sicily 😍 even despite of the fact I speak very basic Italian, I was treated with great respect and was no issue with my communication with property. I loved super long balkony connected with terrace. One of my best stays ever !
We loved this property which is just through the gate at the beginning of the old town - an excellent location! Wonderful hosts, delightful roof top bar and an excellent choice for breakfast. This was one of the great properties we stayed at as we drove around Sicily. We highly recommend the Hotel Porto Reale for anyone contemplating a stay in Noto.
Trapani
The location was very good. Quite close to old town, clean area, no street noise after 21:00. Apartment newly furbished, but old spirit preserved (floor tiles, for example) to give you a scent of Sicily. The apartment was pleasantly cool, no air conditioning was needed really (though the temperature outside was 30-34 degrees Celsius).
